featured artist…tom ecklund
i met tom at the napa art & craft festival this year and immediately fell in love with his work. his potting tables and garden totes are beautiful, functional and perfectly reflect the vision of napa farmhouse 1885™...of course, everything from the collection is handcrafted and made from reclaimed and reused materials.
tom is an avid gardener and his art has always reflected this passion. he began working with ceramics and clay over 25 years ago and created numerous garden sculptures from concrete. his original designs were exhibited at craft fairs, art shows and galleries. he started designing furniture for his own garden and discovered a passion for working with reused materials. tom says “i just get a positive response from organic materials..the calibration of clay-dirt-wood-earth..i just can’t do plastics or man-made materials..just can’t”
i visited tom at his home/workshop in sebastopol, located in the sonoma valley of california. we sat in his lovely garden to discuss his product offering and found we had a shared passion for helping to “green the earth”. tom told me that sonoma county leads the state in the least amount of waste going to the landfill. he gleans vintage architectural items from various salvage sources in northern california and is always on the lookout for treasures that other people think of as trash..”i love getting things for free..we live in a throwaway society..i use the cast-offs to make my art”
tom’s potting tables have been featured in sunset magazine and i am thrilled to present tom as the newest artist featured at napa farmhouse 1885™. we are currently carrying his garden totes and potting tables…click here to begin shopping..and we will be adding additional products for your garden throughout the year…
